  1. Mmmmmmmmmmmm... Fried green tomatoes!

    At the Whistle-stop Cafe?

Do you salt your watermelon? We were discussing this today in the AV room...

  2. Yes, at the Whistle Stop. There is a really neat former plantation near there called Jarrell Plantation. It is a true example of what most backwoods plantations were like. Great place to go.

Fried green tomatoes are also great at the Blue Willow in (Social Circle, Ga.) and at The Lady and Sons in Savannah. That's Paula Deen's place---she has a show on the Food Network.

Salted or unsalted watermelon is a little mushy for me. Hubby got sick one time as a kid during a watermelon eatin' contest so we don't buy many at our house.

  3. See even though I'm just a kind of ersatz Southerner-- Oklahoma is kinda of South, kind of West, kind of Southwest, just don't say Midwest...

    But....
fried green tomatoes, fried okra, cornbread, turnip greens, grits, finger steak dusted in flour and fried in a nice skillet, and you got me. I only 'low myself this about once a year, but, ooo! Nothin' says grandma's house like LOTS of fried food!

And I say FDR was a great president. If there's a mess, it's because lots of other people have lacked the guts to do what needed to be done. Naturally he was a man, not a demigod, and all of our great presidents have had flaws, especially those regarding sexual matters.
