Here are 13 minus 3 of the top architectural works from the American Institute of Architects’ list:
1. Empire State Building
2. The White House
3. Washington National
Cathedral
4. Jefferson Memorial
5. Golden Gate Bridge
6. U.S. Capitol Building
7. Lincoln Memorial
8. Biltmore Estate
Vanderbilt Mansion
10. Vietnam Veterans
Memorial
I tried to find a link to the entire list,
but couldn't. I'd like to see what else is on it.
Ok, I realize some of the text and pictures are "off". I'm fairly sure it has something to do with the code. I attempted to fix it 5 times, before saying "enough". Be nice to me....I've had a hard week.
ReplyDeleteHappy 13!
I hope to see a few of these places this summer when we go to DC and NYC on our way to a family reunion. Great list and wonderful idea for T13.
ReplyDeleteI started a new job and have 13 things I see each day! Happy Thursday!
fixing pics on a blog is sometimes impossible. As long as we can see them, what does it matter?
ReplyDeleteand sadly... i haven't been to any of these yet...
Hey, if you can't figure out which picture goes with which building, there's a problem (okay, or maybe you're not American. I'll give you that one). The only one I don't think I've seen before is the Vanderbilt mansion. I just might need to see more of it...
ReplyDeleteHappy TT!
I didn't know about 3,8 and 10!! But, than there is the fact I suck in American History, and than so, in the important building history!!
ReplyDelete(should have take a american history class in university!!)
My tt are up
i love the chrysler building! i used to live right down the street from it, i have this weird attachment to it like it's my building. i have a picture of it in my living room. great list!!
ReplyDeleteOh, I'd dearly love to see the Biltmore. Happy TT! Joely
ReplyDeleteYep, there really ARE women who are comfortable naked. And they aren't all adult film stars or exotic dancers, either! *grin*
ReplyDeleteI'd LOVE to see the Vanderbilt Estate. I'll have to add it to my wish list of places. High up; I really like that sort of thing.
Thanks for visiting West of Mars this week!
Very interesting TT. Thanks for sharing the info about the AIA list.
ReplyDeleteI have seen 4 of them, but for me the city where you see the most beautiful architectural work is Chicago ! It is internationally known by architects and there is also a very famous school. I loved these old skyscrapers with gold ornaments and anyway I found this city very nice.
ReplyDeleteOh I like this...thanks for sharing. Cool pics, cool idea.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thursday Thirteen!!
I spent a few December days in DC and the architecture really is amazing. Some of my favorite places. Several of the others are on my places to see list.
ReplyDeleteWell, I've been to all of them on tour! I think the US Capitol should have been higher on the list; it's one of the most recognizable buildings in the world.
ReplyDeleteNow it's time for you to give me a break, I'm having trouble with html on this. The link that will eventually list these sites is the AIA America's Favorite. They haven't updated their own site:
http://www.aia.org/aiarchitect/thisweek07/0202/0202n_afa150.cfm
There is another interesting vote which is the, 7 New Wonders of the World. One can vote on these and the announcement will be in Brussels on 07/07/07!
Nine out of 10 isn't bad I guess. I've been to Baltimore but haven't seen that particular building.
ReplyDeletei've seen picture of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception at Dc and I'm sure it should be included too... it's beautiful... in the shape of a cross...
ReplyDeleteI agree, everyone should be able to figure out each picture. Living in the DC area, I have seen most of these. One of the most moving is the Vietman memorial. I have seen it many times and it just really touches me. Hubby works across the stree from the Capitol, so that is no big deal to us. haha
ReplyDeleteGreat TT
I'd love to visit them all! In fact, all 150. :-) I love architecture very much.
ReplyDeleteMy TT is about types of support.
Nice pictures.
ReplyDeleteI hope to get to see them all in person one day. I have the ones in DC out of the way so I just have to find a way to visit the rest.
My TT is about Valentines
Fabulous!
ReplyDeleteI loved all the pictures!
Wonderful TT.
Have a terrific Thursday!
This is a FANTASTIC TT! Except for the Biltmore estate, I have had the pleasure of seeing and visiting the other 11.
ReplyDeleteI would also count the Iwo Jima monument. Semper Fi to Marines everywhere, past and present.
What a great list. All of these buildings are amazing. The Biltmore Estate is absolutely unbelievable. I have doing some genealogical research and have discovered my husband is related to the Vanderbilts!! I think we should go the the Estate and take our rightful place...don't you???
ReplyDeleteThanks for coming by my T13.
I've seen them all and even been in #1 as we hit it on open day... do they still do that with all this terrorism now? It was a great experience. Great TT
ReplyDeleteI've been to all of them except the Vanderbilt and the Empire State Building. Yay!
ReplyDelete(That's unusual for me, 'cause I usually travel off the beaten path...when I travel.)
Anyone else think skyscrapers aren't really great? I mean I understand the signifianace of the first and the biggest, but after that...they are just big, not awe-inspiring.
ReplyDeletethe list needs more frank lloyd wright
ReplyDeleteSince I went to NYC over Christmas...I can now say I've seen every one of these places! That's exciting.
ReplyDeleteMy TT is up, too. I am also a teacher (elementary Literacy Coach).
:-) Susan
I've seen 3 of those. I would still like to see the Golden Gate bridge, and the Biltmore.
ReplyDeleteCheck out my TT.
Nice idea! I've seen all but number 9--I guess that's next!
ReplyDeletecool. 5 of the 10 are within a half mile of where I'm at right now. 1 other is about 3 miles away.
ReplyDeleteI've seen all but one, and the other nine never fail to impress everytime I see them..
I love all these photos, would love to see them all in person, I am asure they would be awesome.
ReplyDeleteAmerican does have some beautiful buildings!
ReplyDeleteGreat list! Can't wait to take my boys to D.C. on spring break. They are strange little kids. : ) They love history just like their mom..lol.
ReplyDeleteHappy 13 and nice to meet you!
Beautiful. I can't wait to hit some of those sites on the east coast.
ReplyDeleteNice list - I've been to 9 out of the 10 (haven't been to the Vanderbilt Mansion yet).
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is The White House. :-)
Thanks for visiting everyone. I think this is a record for a 13 post for me.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate the comments! If I haven't already been by I will visit you within the next couple of days.:)
I've only been to two! I guess I need to get out more. lol I did recognize all of them though.
ReplyDeleteI have been to every one of these except the Golden Gate Bridge. I even got engaged at the Jefferson Memorial (who's my favorite president?)!!! Happy TT (even though it is Friday!)
ReplyDeleteI went through the Biltmore estate a few summers ago, which was truly breathtaking. This is a great post, one I'd also like to share with my students. It's easy to see why many of them have been featured in films, isn't it?
