Today is an important date in World War II history….The website maintained by the
World War II Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge states:
The Battle of the Bulge which lasted from December 16, 1944 to January 25, 1945 was the largest land battle of World War II in which the United States participated. More than a million men fought in this battle including some 600,000 Germans, 500,000 Americans, and 55,000 British. The German military force consisted of two Armies with ten corps (equal to 29 divisions). While the American military force consisted of a total of three armies with six corps (equal to 31 divisions). At the conclusion of the battle the casualties were as follows: 81,000 U.S. with 19,000 killed, 1400 British with 200 killed, and 100,000 Germans killed, wounded or captured.

There is no winner really in a war, but sometimes someone has to commit, just to beat those bad guys who wants to rule the world.
ReplyDeleteGood reflection in history.
It was a bloody and brutal battle. Mercifully it did not prevent Hitler's defeat in teh West. Happy WW
ReplyDeleteMy Uncle Pat fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He survived it in great shape. The battle with diabetes took him from us in March. Thank you for this post.
ReplyDeleteMy grandfather fought at Battle of the Bulge - in fact, he lost three toes from the cold.
ReplyDeleteHe never mentioned his experience there except to say to my grandmother when she would complain how cold the midwest winters could be and he would always respond that it wasn't as cold as it was in Bastogne.
During the summer of 2005, I had to wonderful opportunity to visit Bastogne and the Battle of Bulge museum.
Thank you for the post.
One of my great-uncles was with "that mean ol' SOB" Patton and the third army when he did his great turn to break the siege of Bastagne. It was during this time my great uncle was wounded.....which he claimed probably saved his life. Thanks for a great post !

ReplyDeleteCaffeine Effects and Withdrawal part II
Caffeine addiction shows up when a person cannot stop consuming caffeine in high amounts, causing his/her body to demand the substance and react negatively if that no caffeine is intake. Caffeine may not be addictive in the traditional sense, but the body builds up a tolerance over time; some people find it very hard to function well without at least one cup of strong coffee or tea in the morning. The stimulating effects of caffeine are caused by a central nervous reaction, the heart rate increases, blood vessels expand and the brain receives more oxygen. These caffeine effects can last for up to 8 hours, and once they go off then the body feels extremely lazy and slow as a side effect.
Caffeine addiction can even cause death, mainly because the abuse of any stimulant can cause high blood pressure or and heart problems, so if you abuse of it chances are you put yourself at the highest risk of a heart attack.
You need to be careful with caffeine withdrawal because it affects your overall health and therefore, you need to control your consumption of caffeinated products to prevent your body reactions to caffeine withdrawals. If you need more information about caffeine effects and caffeine addiction symptoms or prevention, please investigate a little further on this topics.
