It doesn't appear wide enough for two lanes of cars. And is that a face of Jesus in the middle of the road, in the shadow? (Sorry, I couldn't resist.) Looking forward to getting the explanation.
What I notice is how very much I want to be standing right there. What a gorgeous scene.
I love photos that include vanishing points. Perspective, after all, is everything in life.

The background is a painting or picure on a wall?
Well, I have seen many roads like that here in Florida so I can tell you it is in the Southeast US more than likely. Oaks and palmetto with limerock or shell road perhaps?
Still don't get the mystery other than the vanishing road due to perspective but I am intrigued....

I like how many of you keyed in on the fact that this is indeed a long, long road. Hmmmm.....

My students study perspective in art so they usually key in on the vanishing road due to perspective as well...
OK I was excited that I recognized live oaks and palmetto, as usually I am totally clueless, but someone beat me to that already. I keep getting this feeling that it has something to do with a bit of old poetry maybe involving marching to war. Can't turn anything up on google though so I will have to check back later.
Shannon, I'm so glad you stopped by. Yes, live oaks and palmetto would be appropriate for this location. No poetry...though there might be some somewhere for this lonely location. No march to war ever occurred here that I know about.
Hint: Review my comment above and what I've confirmed or denied. Clue words.......This place is somewhere that's always on my mind yet it is set apart. It's lonely and the road is indeed long.
What I see - in addition to noticing that it looks like Florida or SE Georgia - is that about half way down the road it seems to change its width and form.

It looks kind of Sea Island-y/St.Simon-like. Or almost like St. Augustine.
Teachergirl, you are very close. The road is on Ossabaw Island and has the distinction of being the oldest and longest dirt road that is in continuous use or so "they" say. Check out my explanation in my post "History of a Long,Dirt Road" for 12-14-07
Well, I was about to guess coastal Georgia, my home. This reminds me of lots of summers spent at the river. I guess I was close!
