Nicholas Roosevelt's 1811 Steamboat New Orleans? That's my best guess, but you said something about a "very interesting and little known war", so I am left wondering. Did the Indian attack count?

The only ship battle I remember from elementary school history was the one in the civil war. Hmm. Looks like a riverboat to me. Not that I would know a thing about it.
